If you’re looking for a viscosity- and temperature-control system that has no moving parts and is compatible with any PLC, you might find what you need in the ViscSense Viscosity Control System from Norcross Corp. (www.viscosity.com). It features a touchscreen controller and uses an acoustic-wave sensor that can be installed inline within a process, regardless of orientation, to continuously monitor viscosity and temperature. Norcross says the system us unaffected by flow or vibration and can measure low shear viscosities from 0-600 CPS and temperatures to 220°F (104.4°C), depending upon the material. The controller operates on 24 VDC and provides 4-20 mA, RS232, and CANBUS outputs. The sensor has a 0.5-in. (12.7-mm) NPT pipe connection.
