If you’re looking for a viscosity- and temperature-control system that has no moving parts and is compatible with any PLC, you might find what you need in the ViscSense Viscosity Control System from Norcross Corp. ( It features a touchscreen controller and uses an acoustic-wave sensor that can be installed inline within a process, regardless of orientation, to continuously monitor viscosity and temperature. Norcross says the system us unaffected by flow or vibration and can measure low shear viscosities from 0-600 CPS and temperatures to 220°F (104.4°C), depending upon the material. The controller operates on 24 VDC and provides 4-20 mA, RS232, and CANBUS outputs. The sensor has a 0.5-in. (12.7-mm) NPT pipe connection.
