Large Format Screen Substrates

Posted on Thu, 5 Aug 2004 at 5:56

Can anybody help?
We are researching the future market for large substrates for screen printing for a major worldwide paper merchant. Does anybody have any comments/opinions on the way the market is going for printing products eg display board, pvc, vinyls etc over 60" x 40". What will be the printers future requirements? Any help you can give would be appreciated.

I understand that several of the major printer mfg's are designing (if not already building) presses with printing widths over 70 in. (70x120 - 74x120....)

I buy 5000 lbs of 100# cover, 8pt C1s, and even some 10pt a month @ 60 to 63" in rolls to sheet here for myself because everybody wants 60" plus widths (I can print 64x120 5 color inline) and nobody will convert that long for me. My usual paper supplier isn't used to someone wanting that wide of rolls, so it's kind of hard to get sometimes (within a week that is).

Dear Neil McCarthy,

In India there is very good demand for the large size screen printing. Infact the sharp increase in demand is due to introduction of large format Digital Printing, which created new market for screen printing. Presently most of the printers use Polycarbonate, Vinyl, PVC, flux and coated papers. I believe future will be for coated papers which are cost effective, easy handling, fast processing and can satisfy the customer requirements in all respect.
