Trying to burn greyscale photos onto screen

Ok, I'm sure you've all read this question a million times, but please bear with me as I have scrolled through many pages looking for the answer and have not found it yet....

I am trying to do 1 color printing (for now it's black print on white shirts or white print on black shirts. When I purn the image to the screen, the screen is not picking up all of the detail in the image. I am using Photoshop CS...I convert my image to greyscale, then convert it to bitmat, choose halftones, and choose elipse as the shape. I'm unsure what to set the other options to (dot sizes, percentages, etc...) but I have a feeling this is where my problem is coming from.
The screenprinting kit I bought is the speedball kit from Michaels craftt store.
Anyone know what I'm doing wrong? Or have any good resources online for halftone settings with photoshop?
Thanks for all your help!!
