heat transfer skateboard graphics

whats the deal with the heat transfers?
are they easy to produce?
where can i produce them?
is it something I can do fully inhouse?
do i need special equipment?
can anyone answer these?

I know i need a skateboard heat transfer machine and some kind of specialty transfer paper, but I'm not real sure exactly where to obtain these and how much they cost.
