Hi, we silkscreened into a pp sheets to make notebooks and the result is quite good but after we spiral bind the paper with the "silkscreened pp cover", we found on some of the product that the ink seems to rub off to the paper inside.
Is it because of the technique or the ink? Do we need to coat on top of it to prevent it to flake off to the paper? Can anyone point out on how to resolve it? Any hint or help is greatly appriciated
polypropylene has to be treated (flame or corona) to accept ink. Also it should be a recent treatment (as recently as months or weeks). be leary of stock that been around for a while, either at your shop or at your vendors. There are Dyne kits available (pen and liquid) to test poly materials for adequate treament levels.
Discuss all this with your ink supplyer (Naz-Dar as Mark says is good, but also Sericol, TW (Polymeric), and Coates - among others I'm sure).
Nor-cote for UV inks is probably the industry leader for polypropylene binder covers (I think)
Good Luck

Al, it sounds like maybe you used the wrong ink. Is it high density polypropylene or low density polypropylene? Has the polypro. been treated? Does it have a recycle code on it? Find out as much as you can about the material, then give Nazdar a call and discuss your ink needs with them.
